Got a big dose of freedom, beauty, and solo time this last week. Nine days on the road; camping, surfing, paddling, photographing, and drifting. I would say that it was a much needed break from reality, but the reality is, I don’t need a break. My reality has become a wonderful fusion of work and play….and it’s moving fast! Well, in the van it’s only about 65mph.
Highlights of the trip:
First stop: Salt Flats, duh
rolled into Tahoe w/clear skies and a dirty rig
SUP at Sand Harbor … put it on your list folks
selfie stick puttin’ in work!
more selfie stick action on Bay Bridge!!
Made it to the coast just in time to catch this
Homeboy Luke just moved into this little shack high in the hills above Pacifica! He put me up for a night…such a cool pad!
Down the 1 into Big Sur
finally got my obligatory waterfall shot!
met up w/Mr 805…aka Yurcho…
followed him up a crazy road to camp at 4k feet above the ocean
whiskey = happy
adventuremobiles enroute to a waterfall
SMB gittin’ ‘er done!! 805!
In the water at first light
Mr 805 makes it look easy (photo cred to @samhig77)
I caught the biggest wave of the day, hands down
Mr 805 catchin’ some moonrays
he rocked a headlamp and we messed around w/long exposures
changes in attitude
Neptune’s Net outside Malibu provided the Gut Bomb of the trip
parted ways w/Mr 805 and headed inland
entering Death Valley
in Death Valley
leaving Death Valley. That’s about it. Check the box. Doubt I’ll be back.
Valley of Fire State Park outside Vegas
Asians take the best photos
parked at Lake Mead for the night
super windy…like 50knot gusts…almost collapsed the pop top!
gimme a camera and a sunset and I’m entertained for days
Lots lots lots more photos….and even more memories. Another roadtrip in the books. Lessons concreted: Make time to play. Go Solo. Do stuff you’re not good at. Any place new is worth a visit.
Hope you guys get out there this Summer!! So much beauty and so many moments to be had!
