A Year in the Blog Game

It’s been a year since I started posting on the interwebs…and what a year it’s been.  I’ve enjoyed documenting my adventures, sharing them, and pushing myself to be a better photographer.  The blog has also simultaneously motivated me to get off my butt and find stuff that is worth capturing.  My initial aim was to get away from posting photos on Facebook where I felt like I was “fishing for compliments.”  Facebook mind as well be called Bragbook (credit Joe for that phrase).  I wanted to give my shots a forum where they could stand on their own.  Instead of ‘pushing’ them out there, I wanted only the interested people to seek them out.   So if you’re reading this….Thanks!  I’ve gotten so many great compliments which totally mean the world to me.  I’m very critical of my photos and feel like I have so much improving to do; so positive feedback really resonates.  I try to tell myself I don’t care what people think, but who am I kidding…I totally do.

I’ve learned that the best part of photography is not snapping the shutter, messing with it in post, or framing a picture to hang on the wall.  The most satisfying aspect is seeing the look on someone’s face or hearing about how a photo made them feel.  Whether it’s a landscape, a portrait, or an action shot….capturing a moment that actually evokes emotion is pretty cool stuff.

This is my 96th post.  My goal for this year is to take better, more thought-out shots.  Improve composition, continue to dabble with different focal lengths, use more functions on my camera in order to rely less on post-processing.

Alright…that’s it…no more words….

……….less is more

Here’s a shot of my niece Emily from 2 weeks ago….
