Russian Flying Buddies

I’m almost done with the ATP/type rating, and my time in Dallas is winding down.  The days are relatively long, and there’s not much time to do anything fun.  I don’t have a rental car, so I’m pretty much stuck in the hotel.  We train on the Southwest simulators which is pretty cool.  It’s a really nice facility, and it’s fun being around civilian pilots.

Where all the magic happens….like fires and engine failures

It’s been fun going through the program with my Russian sim partner….Dimitry Kmdryashov.  He’s a good guy and is doing his best to pick up all the American slang he possibly can.  He takes all our expressions very literally, so we have to explain what the heck we mean by ’em.  The other night at dinner I was poking fun at him, and he told me, in a thick Russian accent, “Hey buddy….you should eat some s**t”…..I almost spit out my diet coke.

… the Cold War never happened
